We are not a Startup. We are not a Scaleup. We are GoodUp. We come from a small country, but a have a big mission”.

That is how Bart Lacroix (CEO of GoodUp) started his pitch on the energy dance floor at SOCAP17 in San Francisco.

This pitch is part of the Dutch Social Impact Mission to San Francisco, SOCAP17. GoodUp has been selected as one of the most interesting Dutch Social Startups to join this mission together with 9 other leading Dutch Social Enterprises (Tony’s Chocolonely, Land Life Company, MoyeeCoffee, Energy Floors, The Dutch Weed Burger, People’s Pension Holding, Reflow, The Social Medwork and Dif Media).

Connecting Dutch Social Enterprises to international players

The goal of this mission is to connect the Dutch social enterprise ecosystem to international players, to learn from each other and to accelerate massive social impact worldwide. The Netherlands Consulate General in San Francisco, Enviu, Social Enterprise NL and Social Impact Ventures NL have joined forces to organise this Impact Trade mission.

SOCAP supports global impact economy

SOCAP (Social Capital Markets) is a network of investors, social entrepreneurs and social impact leaders addressing the world’s toughest challenges through market-based solutions. SOCAP17 is the annual flagship event, which convenes thousands of impact investors, world-class social entrepreneurs and innovative cross-sector practitioners dedicated to increasing the flow of capital toward social good.

The Netherlands as European epicentre for social entrepreneurship

The Netherlands has become the European epicentre for social entrepreneurship and impact investing. Over the last 5 years, the social enterprise sector has grown rapidly and boosted impact on important themes as circularity, poverty reduction, education and inclusivity. The Dutch collective social business revenues grew with 75% to €3.5 billion in 2015 and contributed 3% to the growth of the GDP between 2010 and 2015.

Why do the Netherlands provide such fertile ground for social enterprises? Its unique foundation has 3 strong pillars: deeply rooted humanistic and social values in an open society; a historical track record of international trade and an internationally renowned ecosystem of finance and investing with a long-term horizon.
